SATA HDD on PATA/IDE motherboard

January 26th, 2008, 1:18

I have a Intel D845GLVA having PATA/IDE ports but no SATA ports. I want to upgrade my 5400RPM 2MB Cache 40GB HDD to something 7200RPM 8MB Cache 160GB. Kindly advice if I can use any PCI SATA Controller Card, boot from the HDD attatched to it and install Windows Xp on it...

Why not just get a new, high speed IDE drive?

You won't notice any real difference in speed between IDE and SATA
