Strange case of samsung unable to recover data

February 10th, 2008, 1:29

I have a Samsung SV1H 40 Gb Vango hdd for data recovery. It has 2 partitions of 20 gb each. Suddenly files & folders are missing from the drive.
I tried to do software recovery but after 30% scan on D drive i get bad sector & PC restarts. So i decided to clone drive using mediatools. Again at the same point large no. of bad sectors (more than 5000) come up. After cloning i tried to do data recovery but no data found
I found something fishy & tried to look for hardware issues. In pc3000 drive immediately gets ready but its size is reduced (66,56069 sectors while actual geometry is of 78242976 LBA) I tried to read modules and i did not find error ,but i get error while reading rom ( check sum error) . I swapped board with same board but get same ROM check sum error.
That means ROM /Firmware are not at fault ( or i have failed to identify where problem is.)
I need suggestion from someone who know samsung better
Thank you

Hi Pepe
Thanks It seems drive is not clipped as in mediatools it shows all LBA sectors . In MHDD & Hdat2 also correct geometry is read.
