WD400BB Does "error 0" mean drive is scrap?

February 17th, 2008, 20:27

Drive: WD400BB. Windows FDISK shows error reading the drive. The Western Digital program show an error, and the Maxtor HD routine said (IIRC) track 0/sector1 error.

MHDD'scan' shows Error: 0, 16065, 1181415, 150780. Running scan with remap and erase on did not fix it. SMART showed remaps of 109 (under columns 1, 2), 361 (column 3 "raw").

There is no data to be recovered, so scrapping the drive is not a big loss, but it seems a shame to throw it away when it is 99.9999% good. Is there something (easily) done to make it useable?
