I have one of these drives and it seems to be completely dead.

No power to it what so ever..

Could anyone advise as I have a lot of data I'd like to recover

Change the PCB.

But must swap ROM also.

You might have to switch ROM chip.

Hi,

as far as i can see, the main processor unit is burnt, this is usually caused by overvoltage on the 5V power line. If this is the case, there is a high probability that the preamplifier circuit inside the HDA is also toasted, and if so, pcb replacement will not solve the problem and it might be dangerous to the good pcb also.

Well I have got a new HD now, on the same line and it has worked perfectly for a few months now.. so unless there was a power surge (I have a surge protector too) somewhere, then I don't understand how!

My PSU was recently replaced as my old one was faulty, and caused untold problems, but the HD was fine with the new one for a while!

Also I wont know if I don't try and replace it..

Do I need exactly the same PCB and what else do I need to do.. all I want is the data off the HD!

It Would Be Wise If You Could Check The Preamp and See If It is Toased Too ,Cos if it is it will toast the new pcb too
