Yes, if you also swap the small 8 PIN EEPROM IC. No if you don't.

Why does the 2nd line (firmware version) have to match if im removing the original nvram and soldering it onto the donor PCB?

If you match those 2 lines, it should be ok not to replace nvram chip, but there is still a chance that Nvram won't match.

Even with 2 lines the same, hitachi have a lot of different firmware versions, so you have to try it.
