Editing Firmware

March 9th, 2008, 16:49

Here is the question:
Is it possible to edit the firmware to report a different hard drive model number?
Can you read/edit/write the firmware?
The drive is a Maxtor 6L200P0.

The reason I want to do this is to fool a Personal Video Recorder into
thinking this is one of it's supported drives.
What I mean is I want the Hard Drive to report that it is a Maxtor 4R120L0 instead of a 6L200P0.

Hi,

Yes, it is possible, but specials tools are needed to access FW.

Hardware or software tools?
Too bad I didn't take the job at the data recovery company...
