Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I wish the video was of a better quality without the roadkill frog. At the end of the video when he takes the tool off it moves the head stack slightly then he struggles for a few seconds to remove it. I wonder if this was a practice drive.

I tend to agree. While the tool looks interesting, and well made, the Tech put a lot of pressure on it screwing something down with a screwdriver, and it looked sure to damage the head stack. I just wish the video was better. It's hard to judge with such a grainy video.

Doomer, do you use this device? It looks like it can damage the wires and scratch the platters when used like this...
Is it universal for all drives or for each manufacturer you have different?

No, it is not touching platters or wires, it's very precision mechanism

Do you have any better pictures of it?

We're currently working on something that will work with any drive up to five platters.
Hopefully available around July / August 2008.
It will remove headstacks _without_ the fumbling seen in the video posted in this thread.
