Adapter/Converter for a Strange 1.8" HDD?

Hi All

I received a hard disk this week which is a Toshiba 1.8"hard disk with a odd male connector,instead ofthe connector having a female connector here are gold pins but the ends are rounded and curled into a circle (luke a u shape).

I have searched the internet for an adapter to read this disk. I already the standard converts for 1.8 to 2.5" or 3.5" and to USB as well as the ZIFF Connectors, but this is very new.

Anybody seen an adapter or converter to allow this disk to be connected to a PC using a 2.5", 3.5" or USB connector?

This is a photo of the drive and the connector, this is the 1st time i have seen this! It came from a Toshiba Notebook.

I don't think that looks like a real connector. It looks like there's no insulation between the pins, and they are easily bent. It looks like a regular connector with pins from a proprietary connector stuck on. Have you tried pulling on one of the pins? Do you have what this connected to? My money is that what you're looking at is the remnants of a broken connector.

I assure you, it's come this way from Toshiba. There is no adapter/converter, i have checked - these pins connect directly to the PCB, it cannot be removed or disconnected, the pins are soldered directly to the PCB.

I have worked with at least 3 other types of 1.8" disks at least 40-50 times in the past few years but never this disk.

Any suggestions , even on what it's called would be helpful. A google search on the model # shows only the standard connector, this particular disk must have been a limited release batch. It's one rare disk to find!

If the pins are soldered in, it's probably not the remains of another connector, but the remains of the original connector. It could be the camera fish-eyeing, but the top and bottom metal looks bent out, looking like the plastic pin carrier was pulled out. A quick Google of the part number seems to confirm this.

Sorry but I can't see where the problem is. Remember the pins are on the ribbon/interface instead of on the drive. In reverse to what you find with 2.5 & 3.5 drives.

Its a standard CFll connector and as suggested previously with the molded plasic insulator pulled out from the drive casing and circuit board.
Look at the gaps to the left and right hand side!

All you need to do is carefully make sure the pins are not short circuiting and plug in a standard CFll to ide converter and you should be imaging the drive to a backup.
