Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I realized a few years ago that doing a reformat with the manufacturer's restore CD's did not wipe my drive completely," due to immortal Norton registry keys".
I have been using ,"kill disc", now prior to reformatting, it works well, but the free edition only does 1 pass per application.
I just downloaded HDD's low level format tool, but after visting HDD's site, I'm not sure which is better for me,"To wipe a disc clean, and still be able to re-install thru my recovery disc or my XP OS CD, nor am I sure exactly what the differnce between the 3 I'm looking at:
HDD's Low Level Format tool
" Wipe tool
" Capacity Restore tool
Please Enlighten,
Also, does HDD have a scan tool, that does the same thing as windows "Error disc check", utility except better?
Thanks,
Steelwolf
