Hi gurus
I am dealing with a maxtor N40P. I have identified problem with the firmware & correct rom checksum with loader. Now i need to write 3 bad modules - 02C00002 , 00090020 , 00290139. rom checksum of patient is 639E
What criteria i must look while choosing right firmware ( from donor) .If someone has right firmware please pm me.

It seams we cant write mod 0009 (zone table) from another drive couse it is esencial one....

Without Plist you can't recover.
Have you tried to read it with 'ignore errors'.
Mostly the beginning of the plist is good and there are errors to the end, but mostly only beginning of the module is filled with data. Then you could correct the bad sectors by hand.
Then i would advise hotswap. Seems to me the only method.

Translator regeneration:
The feature allows the users to rebuild translator modules PN=18h, PN=37h,PN=78h based on the data found in defect list from the module PN=33h.Regeneration process clears the translator adding the defects from that list one by one using the techno command for defects assignment. There is an important peculiarity: if a drive had tracks hidden on the RZTBL level,they will be shifted to P-List level. That may cause modification in the interpretation of defects by the drive ( hard to explain so far). No shift of user data occurs in that case.

So if it are the translator modules that are damaged, that is not a big problem.
Follow the manual for hotswap. Copy all important modules to the donor, regenerate translator, put the drive in standby and change the pcb. You should then be able to access the data on the patient drive.

Thanks for your valuable help. I tried to check SA structure with option Reassign Bad sectors. Process went smoothly
Now when i check modules , All modules are Ok except Rztbl. Using ISA i have created loader .
Despite so much work Drive only changes from firmware 6159z to 61590 with correct capacity but without Serial firmware loaded from database other wise i get error & utility does not start . DE didn't worked as well.
finally I cleared Glist & regenerated Translator & now i can go into utility without loading firmware from database. Please let me know if ihave done somthing wrong.

Hi Hddbug,
If that worked ok then all should be fine. You should be able now to access your data and copy it from the drive with DE.
