Files get distorted after copying to the hard drive

May 3rd, 2008, 3:55

Hi all,

recently I bought a Samsung HM160HI Spinpoint M hard drive in external usb case.
However, all the pictures/movies I store there get distorted (changed colors, strange stripes appear throughout). I did a low level format using "Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool" by HDDGURU. Then I formatted into NTFS using Partition Manager. However, I still have the same problem.

Do you think there is some way to fix this or the hard drive is defective...

Thanks!

Try the drive connected directly to the motherboard. I won't be the least surprised if you find your USB enclosure, or the USB cable, is mangling your data.

hm, I guess you're right. I just opened the case and indeed it's really really crappy. I can't test it though, since I only have my notebook, which has another type of harddrive. I guess I'll buy another case.

thanks for the hint!
