Hi, well it seems the data is not very important here, so I suggest not to bother yourself about this drive, get a new one and go on!
IDE is not a HDD model BTW...

FORMAT=erase all data...means your father's company data is gone....so you should take pepe's advice and go by a new one.

If your data is so important why did you format the hard drive?

Not only that but why did you use the low level format utility?

If your data is really important I would suggest you give the job to a professional recovery technician. That way you won't do any more damage.
Even now it might be too late, I havn't used that format utility but some I know will overwrite every sector on the drive.

Hi,

U gave the data the big shot with the LLF tool, I am really surprised why u used it on your father's company data...
If somebody manages to make the drive readable, the chances of a successful recovery are really faint, at least depending on how many percents were done by LLF.
I think U shouldn't mess with the drive anymore, but gave it to a pro.

Low Level Format writes zero to every sector. So, its impossible to recovery data from the HDD. But, as you stopped the LLF, there have chance to recover data, it depends how many sector was zero filled.

Can you indicate how many sector or how much percentage did u format using LLF?

It is better to send your HDD to Professional providing your LLF job done (how more) by you.

N.B: Low level formatted sectors data could not be recovered ever.

Do you really want to spend hundreds of dollars in tools to repair an old 40GB drive? Just buy a new drive. Consider yourself incredibly lucky you have a backup. Consider it a cheap lesson.

Based on what you've said, it's probably corrupted firmware. The cheapest tool that can fix that is Salvation, around $400. Frankly, a 40Gb drive isn't even worth the effort of thinking about it.

However, you do seem determined. Laura at Salvation Data will be happy to sell you what you need. No guarantee the tool will fix the drive tho.
