Seagate PCB Swap

May 15th, 2008, 18:49

Hi guys,
I have a seagate ST3160812A that someone plugged the wrong power supply into ( it was in an enclosure and the enclosure was plugged into the wrong power supply ).

It will not spin. I believe there is a short in the PCB because when I install the drive in a desktop, the desktop will not start ( I believe it detected a short )

I'm going to try the PCB swap.
Found a drive with same:

firmware
site code
model
same RPM

I see others on here who mention config having to be the same and HDA P/N.

Where are those?
What do you guys think my chances are?

Thanks

sigitharjono,
Hi,
Thanks for responding.
Where is the config? Isn't that a number on one of the chips?

Not sure how to match the IC controller.
Can you help me?

Thanks

4096k x 16 DRAM
NHAWK - 1_Disk S-42 03-27-07_13:01

Buzz

This msg means that the motor is initialized or stuck after initialization after that head parks/unparks and drive reach ready state , In short if your pcb was working fine on the other hdd and on your drive gives this msg then most probably its a preamp problem .
