HDD Failure, any chance of recovering some DATA??

May 16th, 2008, 4:35

Hi there!

in January i bought a sony VAIO VGN-SZ650N notebook with a 160 GB Saegate Momentus PSD harddrive. And a few days ago i start my computer and it sais: Failure with HDD 2 (boot drive on sony vaio) please back up your files as soon as possible and replace Harddrive.
I couldnt get it to work to only option was to format the disk and try to install evererything agaon, wich i DIDNT!
So i installed a new harddrive (western digital 320 GB) and installed everything again on the new one.
Then i bought a ICY BOX usb adapter for my broken HD. Trough windows explorer i cannot acces the drive, it asks immediately if o want to format the disk. Then i made a backup with acronis, wich seemed to work, i told that the drive is somewhere corrupted and that i could be that not all data would be accesible. But in the end a file of 150 GB came out so i guess it backupped something ;)
I tried to mount the file with acromis wich gave me the same problem as with the external drive; you want to format disk now??

So my question to you is???? is there any possibility to recover some of the data?? I backupped quiet a lot so lets say i have like 100 GB on an external disk (music, movies, pictures etc... ) BUT i have som VERY important files that i just made in the last 10 days that i didnt backupped... And would realy be happy to get tehm back!!!

So if you have any ideas!!

thanx in advance!!

As i said as i try to mount the disk with acronis than i cannot acces the mounted drive, he asks if i want t o format the disk... I hope there is another way...

Bad sector on boot sector
image the drive sector wise then use it.
dont run chkdsk or thats kind of utility which will loss your data more
