Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB click after a new PCB

June 3rd, 2008, 10:39

Hello :)

I have a Maxtor DiamondMax PLus 9 160GB:
YAR41BW0
K,M,B,D
Y45PB8PE
6Y160P0042811

One day, i switched +4 and +12 V cables (yellow and red) and the PCB burned under my eyes

I wanted to retrieve my data and ordered http://www.hdd-parts.com/18000270.html but now the hard drive makes some some "click, click, click" sounds and is not seen by the bios.

Do you know where the problem comes from ? (bad PCB, bad firmware... ?)

Thank you :)

Does your old PCb have an external ROM?

Post pic of old PCB.

there two options that the hard drive has damaged the preamp head chip.

or the main problem is wrong firmware and you need to swap the firmware chip from your
old board to the new board

and then it should work again

It is compatibility issue. If your old board do not have ROM chip,(IMHO it real don't), then you are facing whit a DEAD preamp chip.
P.S. Check power supply!
