Stuff was unreadable

June 5th, 2008, 12:09

hello...

I have this 160G bytes barracuda 7200.7, 160 Gbytes, st360021a, 5js9kdh3, 9w2001-631, 811 HD which was given to me as a defective HD. when connected to the BIOS it was normally detected.
I checked P,T,G lists and there were uncountable record on both the P and the G list.
I wanted to run several tests on the PC-Check software (read verify test, mechanical stress test, non-distructive write test, and immmediate SMART) therefore I attempted to empty both G and P lists with a zero zill afterward. I started with the G list empty it and then zero fill, (the technical support from salvation data told me that a zero fill would take around 15-20 min for a 40 Gbytes HD) so I gave it 1:30 Hours just to be safe and then I power off desconected the HD reset the console and then connect it again.
now the HD is not recognized, and on CMD it says this:

Interface task reset
1024k x 16 buffer detected
ALPINE - 1_Disk M-21 11-25-03 18:53

Buzz - Head Mask FFFF - Switch to full int.
Spin Ready
8.11 04-01-05 10:19
(P)PATA Reset

Stuff Was Unreadable(

I have started to read the Seagate terminal commands and they say that with the F command you set the Stuff which might have data up to 512 character long. So I did a ctrl+R to load the cert codes and then type the F

T>F
003 080A 00C0 143C F654
A936 00CF 0000 FFCA 0000 0BDA A385 A384 FF11 0058 3E94 0000 0000 009F 385A 0050
I gave it some time to see if more parameter would pop out but nothing.

questions:
1. what exactly is the stuff? and what role does it play to keep the HD correctly function?
2. where can i find info about the stuff ?(on the terminal command they say to look for the Seagate-Longmont Vendor Specific Stuff document) I tried online search but couldnt get nothing. I have read on some previos posts that those information are not available to the users.
3. any advice on what apreach to take at this point? ( I dont intent to do a DR just HD repair)

regards.
Pedro E.

I also was intending after erasing both G and P to do a low level format using Ninja tool which skipp bad sector errors and reasign bad sectors.

Im sorry if I trying to explain my procedure becasue of my lack of knowlege i have said horrible conceptual things.
