Hitachi Heads

June 9th, 2008, 2:45

Hello, what are the requirements for a donor head on a hitachi travelstar. Does the mlc number and part number need to match? Looks like some of you have had success either way. My drive is a HTS548020M9AT00 MLC#H69553 P/N#08K0855. I am using salvdata hitachi and am having many problems with delay times, sometimes the modules are corrupted but not always, sometimes the sectors can be viewed other times they cannot. Yes, I am somewhat new at this so please excuse my learning curve when I ask this but, if the head is weak you cannot correct the nvram or anything else for that matter since you cannot even identify the drive. With my limited drive experience this seems like a head problem.

Yes, I was attempting nvram recovery. I did this first as the drive would not id in salvation tool. I really dont know what to do with this as it is so hit and miss. This drive acts strangely in that after I succesfully reload nvram it will only id itself for a short amount of time. I will load donor nvram and do sa parameter search and it will look for maybe 3 mins, sometimes it will go for hours. This does not always happen thou. Sometimes it will id and sometimes it wont. Now the drive wont spin at all.
