June 13th, 2008, 17:29

Hi

I'm new and would really appercaite your help on this problem.

I;ve had my Maxtor for few years now and have 200gb worth of pictures, music, videos etc. i really dont wanna lose anything and trying to recover the data.

At the moment, the computer reads the drive and the icon appears in my computer however whenever i click on the drive, it request me to format the whole drive??

The autorun does not function anymore and i cant get in the drive. i know it still has all the data in it

so if anyone knows of any free software out there that will recover my data OR how i can get in the drive

thanks a lot in advance

I had similar issue with One touch and cleaning PCB contacts resolved the issue. It may be more than that with your drive but give it a shot.

Perhaps you should send it to one :)

Then again, some people insist on doing things themselves, despite the consequences. The 'Easeus' guy on here has software that is 100% guaranteed to recover your data under all circumstances, except when it won't. Then, you're out of luck, and likely have ruined it for anyone else at any price to recover the data.

Just so we're clear, don't dare get back on here and say something like "You guys said this software would get my data, and after I spent $$$ on it, it didn't do anything."

Izzqu,

You post as a total stranger on the forum, requesting free software and free advice, and then complain and carry on when you don't get the immediate & comprehensive help you expected.

Doctors should give you free diagnoses and lawyers should write you free contracts too, right? Would YOU be willing to work for free?

Often the knowledge that is needed for difficult recoveries only comes at the price of hours of time invested and lots of money spent. Don't be surprised if people are not rushing to help you just because you demand they do!

There are a lot of helpful, knowledgeable folks on this forum. They are often willing to assist if you come with plenty of info and a reasonable attitude. If you can't muster these things, I recommend you take that free ride back to wherever you came from.

Jon

Dear Izzqu,
My guess to your HDD Problem based on your statement...
Your HDD is suffering for BAD SECTORS including FS problem also...

Advice: Dont run CHKDSK/Scandisk or like this kind of tools. Dont meet any support engineer.

Advice2: You must meet a professional to get your data back. No user level software can solve your problem excepting mess up more. cos, its physical issue.

Example: you went for treatment of your heart to a (not professional) low sceme rate provider. Then, your heart is in risk for the miss operation, could you recover it anymore? It would be better if you would go to the professional first then your heart would be safe.

An Information: 14% Data Loss criteria happens for user/support engineer miss operation (Your Diagnosing & Repairing Tool).

Finally to say, you understand the worth of your data.
