Very easy. Simply run Chkdsk. What's the problem?

I ran chkdsk. Is it supposed to be noisy?

Absolutely. That drive has one of those new 'Sand Bearings'. Seagate engineers have discovered that random metal shavings make much better bearings. I just can't trust a drive if i can't hear it!

Thanks for the illumination. I guess the purpose of those platter separators is to try to keep all of the sand in the box??

looks like u got some fairy dust for free inside the drive.
sprinkle some magic dust and it will work again
or better yet send it to ontrack and they tell you yes we can do the recovery no problem

More likely they will charge you $800 for an evaluation.....of course if you accept their quotation they will waive the evaluation fee.

Jono,
why did you even bother downloading those pictures to this forum? It should be under funny pictures of the drives in general forum.

Believe it or not, the customer is going to send it to OnTrack. We shall see . . . stay tuned . . .
