WD2500JB Problems

July 3rd, 2008, 0:18

Hi Group,

I am trying to get this drive working to get data off. It spins up, clicks once, then spins down. I have a donor for this drive and was able to hotswap the drive to scan the modules. Many of them had errors, so I used the donor modules to repair them (except 20, 22,23,25,43 and 44 since they are unique). After repairing, I rescanned and got no errors. I restarted the drive and got the same thing - spin up, click, spin down.

Any ideas?

Thanks for responses.

Hi,
Model: (MDL:) ?
After hot swap (to work with modules) U use native ~Dir (module 41), or ~Dir from donor?

Hi Mikippp,

The full model is WD2500JB-00FUA0. I used the donor's module layout I believe. All I did was hotswap in Salvation data tool and scanned fw, fixed the ones that were damaged. Are you suggesting I check out these to see if some of the modules are allocated to different areas?

I would start leaning towards a spindle motor problem here guys.
