Replacement control board for Maxtor 6L250S0

July 10th, 2008, 16:12

Hello All,

I've recently has a Maxtor DiamondMax10 (6L250S0) die on me in a spark and puff of smoke. I'm looking to replace the Control Board on it in an effort to recover some 200gigs of Data on the driver. The only identifying marks on my drive i can are as follows:

DiamondMax10
6L250S0
250GB SATA150
Code: BANC1G10

and on the Control Board:

302006101 SABRE/SATA/ROHS

OSCAR E5-D4 040121300 / L-OSCAR-E5D4 0521T

I have found a donor board on e-bay with the following details:

Controller logic board only. Tested and working on Maxtor DiamondMax 10 drive 6L250S0. Board part # is U2GLA. IC # is OSCAR F7-D4 / 040125400.

As such, i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on wether or not this would work on my bricked drive?

many Thanks

Hello,

if your preamp survives this touch, you only need to find any board with R4GLA code. ;)

Hi

Is this a popular failure on this drive? I have two (a 6L250S0, and a 6B200) ...with same defect: the combo (SMOOTH ver 1.2), the planar transistor (Q501), and some diode was defected (see the other topic). I had change all, and the drive ok. But only for a few minutes.... and the new combo heated up...and lot of smoke again:( :(

Conclusion: the preamp was good. So get a new PCB, and may it will be work again.

Nop.
He is touched the pcb, and he caused the short circuit or misscalibrated some circuit.

On your case is different.
You need to do a good soldering under the smooth chip, because the soldering is the heatsink for it!
And, you need to use the grey layer under the pcb to be able to cooling the pcb through the aluminium body. ;)

If this is not helps, you need to measure more on the pcb...
