My Hitachi 40 gb laptop HDD IC25N040ATMR04-0 4200 RPM died after a long overheating activity (my fault of course,it has been hanging for longtime). At present it is clicking, not readible and I would like to recover some data on it.I know it's very difficult, but may be somebody can help me suggesting the guidelines to follow, beeing a newbie with HDD but electronics amateur for long time. Thanks

Hi, the Hitachi ATMR series is well known for there bad heads....so that would be my first guess.
And to swap heads is nothing I will recommend a beginner, so if the data on the drive is importent send it to a DR service.

If you want to try to perform it your self, try to read as much as you can in the forum, and practice a lot on bad drives.

Best Regards

Bosse

If ur prepared to send to UK, then I'll take a look a it.

PM me if interested.

Otherwise, send to a DR company in Italy. This is not really something easily fixable by an amateur.
