Hello Everybody
i want loader for maxtor hard disk. Which parameters are important to check it? Model /firmware code / sticker or codes like NMBA etc?
Thanks

Loader for what platform ? Everything is in the manuals.

Thanks friend
My disk is Mator 6Y080L0 YAR41BWO NMBA , i tried at least 15 loaders but they are not working.
I need to know how to identify correct loader. Any help welcome

Collect the Loader specified as 6Y080L0 YAR41BWO, its enough... to boot using SA-A, you have to collect SA-A.

Maybe you have some problem with heads or preamp. It is not so difficult to find loader for that drive. What software do you use?

Unless someone has mixed the PCBs

or there's a problem in the preamp / head.
Anyway, if some mods are unreadable or trashed, head knocking can occur.

Thank You all of you.
I am junior technician working in a data recovery company & this is my first assignment .
I have PC3000 pci. When i use loader i get following screen
1B overlay loading
1C overlay loading
ROM copy loading
hdd soft reset
Overlaies loading
Hdd soft reset
Ok!
At this point drive starts knocking , when i make software reset & HDD identification , it changes firmware to YAR41BWO & knocking stops. But i get error UBA 8 error & i cannot enter utility,
My seniors say ROM checksum in the loader is not matching thats why i put question how to identify correct loader.
Can anyone give me tips to identify preamp / head problem and firmware problem.
Cheers

Set it in Safe mode.
Load a ROM and overlay (top selection in PC3K) from any Calypso drive YAR41BW0
It should work.

Unbelievable ! Sorry but it seems to me a little strange when you say you work in a DR and this is your 1st assignment and so on as you stated. If you have been properly trained you should know at least how Maxtor HDD work and point out the problem . Anyway, if you have the proper tools , everything is in the manual(s). It's hard for me to believe that a DR gives valuable work or HDDs with customer data present to a complete newbie as you seem to be.
Maybe I'm wrong anyway. Everyone was a newbie before growing.
Instead of searching for a one-click solution, read carefully the manual(s) about how loader work, the structure of the SA and how to work it out.
About checking preamps and head, just get a scope and check the proper test points on the PCB especially during startup, this works 100% (for me).
And BTW before using the scope for signal tracing, check for correct voltages at the parts.

Hi BlackST
Thanks for advice. I have been given this work because this is least important work. photorecovery only. I dont have any experience in physical recoveries as my domain is logical.
I read manuals thoroughly before posting , unfortunately it says to do this and that but if that doesnot happen then what is my post all about.
I have put jumpers in safe mode & tried 3-4 loaders ( rom+overlay) but drive knocks & only firmware change is displayed. I think this is preamp / head issue.
Thanks

Check signal path then give a try to another working pcb. Check in order not to fry the new pcb. Also, maybe the 1f module is broken. Does it start from sa-c?

Hy!
Check the head number (the 2nd number in the serial, or the 9th in the TLA). Some 80G maxtor have only 2 head (40G write desity per disk), and some have 3 (~30G write desity).
When this solution cant help you, check the preamp.

Hi Thank you BlackST & areus for your valuable help. Unfortunately sad end to my job. I tried all solutions suggested by you but drive knocks after loader . Now i have given up.
Thanks again

I think problem is with 1F module since the utlity is giving UBA 8 error u can access the drive using pc3k ISA , Pc3k pci cant help u in this case .
I think u have the older version of pc3k pci because 2.25 enters the utlity even if 1F is damaged .

Yes Rameez I already told him. If 1F is KO the drive is likely to behave as it has... 8 heads for example, so it "knocks" with any loader.

Hi rameez & BlackST
Your posts have given me confidence. I have never operated pc3000 ISA. But i will try it.
Big Thanks
