General Question on Head Alignment

July 23rd, 2008, 21:10

Hi Group,

I know that WD drives often have head alignment issues after a head swap. Do other drives need playing with alignment? I have tried before with little success. Is it just WD or others too?

Also, is there a tool to help with this alignment problem? Seems like I read something before about head alignment, but they were actually talking about platter alignment on multi-platter drives.

Thanks!

A

WD have STW AFTER CLOSED and the mha is kept in position by the screw on the cover, so the problems of tilt or z-axis, you need patience to get the hdd calibrating.

I'm curious. Does anyone know for sure which way a Head Stack needs to be tilted? Should it be moved parallel to the length of the HSA? Or Perpendicular? Or both?

Both.
