How to set source SA by upload

July 28th, 2008, 12:09

Hi!

I have a Maxtor 6Y080L0 drive that loads from SA-C in master jumpered mode. (the SN is OK, but the FW is YCR41VJ0...)
The drive was good, but the copy of the G-list (1724 mod) was bad (perhaps it was on an UNC sectror). Sometimes the drive is failed by the reallocated sectors. I tried to repair the G-list, i had clear them...but the Glist copy was unchanged....so i rewrote this G-List copy with the primary G-list mod (rechanged the rewroted mods header to TAP_LO D).

After a reseting the drive was absolutely good by the reallocations, but the next power on the drive failed.....and now the SA-C is the upload source. I have an original loader, and the original SAA mods, but when i want to load this drive with this, it hangs. (only busy flag is active...after 10 seconds the motor stops....and nothing changed). How can i repair the SA-A, or how can i access to the SA-A ?

Don't need data ? Start selfscan from SA_C then you'll get a PERFECT SA. Fixed! The drive starts in C because of trash in the P-list as you figured it out.
Assuming you don't want the data, try to load ALL the modules EXCEPT ADAPTIVES from an IDENTICAL WORKING model (IDENTICAL means IDENTICAL like 6Y080L0422611 for example) writing to ALL HEADS.
The drive should recalibrate and report RDY. At this point if you have time and want to be 100% sure, SS it.
If it doesn't work, SELFSCAN from SA_C, it will rebuild the SA.

BTW if on the other side you need the data, then you have to backup SA, build a loader with all the lists and translator OK (composite ?) , start with loader, access the data and after verified it's all OK then , to repair the drive, SS from ALT then normal SS.
Also, check 1F (DISK) , 1E and all the other relevant stuff like MAXATG ULIST etc. maybe one of that modules is forcing the drive to start from C. It happens.
Are you sure you don't damage adjacent modules while wrting one due to bad adaptives or bad 1F ? (1F fails... :( !)

Thank you, BlackST.

But i have a big problem...: i dont have a pro tool, like salvation or PC3k. I have only an SW (no HW  ). but i will try your solution. This prog can start an SS, but it hangs by the first mod.

Another question: how can i repair the phisicaly head map. I have a 160G drive, what has a wrong head map. (the preamp and everything is ok....) In master jumpered mode the drive recalibrates normaly, but after a second the head rapidly clicks (not the tik-tak sound.....). I have read out this wrong mod, the problem is: the head 1234 is active, not the 2345. When i try to load the drive with SA-C loader, the drive clicks too. ...

1F damaged?

After a quick check : I'll surely check 1F. Remember to check the SN or the number on the TLA of the drive to ensure about the correct head number. There are for example 80G Calypso with 2 or 3 heads (maybe built from excessive parts or downgraded?) with obviously different head mask. This is important when building a loader or borrowing modules.
When 1F gets completely damaged the drive knocks with correct loader and probably will appear with 5 or more heads :S
