Normally I match the full drive model. e.g. MK4021GAS and the next line, e.g. ZE01 T (where T is a manufacturing site).

However, I was short on parts last week and successfully did a headswap with a different site code.

Conclusion.....try to match site code, but in my experience, it doesn't seem to make a big difference.

The drive family MUST be the same. e.g. GAS is NOT compatible with GAX family.

AFAIK, within a drive family, 80 or 60 GB heads will work in a 40GB drive.
