WD1600JD

Hi Guys .. couple of questions
First .. What are (if any ) jumper settings for safe mode on
western digital sata drive ( as there is no Master/Slave/CS)

So here's the problem:
Drive is occassionally recognised in Bios ( but not always)
Using WD Doctor, I can't download rom, Primary SA fails.
BUT: Sec SA is good, and I can read data sectors from within WD DR.
I've tried re-writing mods, but always fails.

any hints greatly appreciated

Thanks

Steve

Check contacts between pcb and hda, first. Then I vote for rom or head problem, as sa2 is ok and does not accept rom programming.

I removed the pcb , and still can't get to safe mode.

Almost Head 0

Almost certainly weak H0, or at least flakey SA on H0

Try and get it recognised and image it quick. ;-)

Well I kinda figured it was head 0. but was hoping not.
I'm still a little puzzled why I can't read the rom.

Jumpstarting - safe mode - you should.

That was one of the original questions. How do I get the sata to safe mode?
normally if I remove pcb from drive it would go to safe mode .
This one however doesn't.
This is one of the BIG problems with the Salvation products, lack
of good documentation :(

Sadly, yes. Have you tried contacting Laura? Maybe she can address correctly your technical question. They have much improved, anyway. This has to be said.

that was my next move ;) But I think it will be tech support instead of Laura .

I tried all 4 jumpers and yes it went to safe mode , also did some different tests ..safe mode
is the 3 jumpers closest to the data cable . (PM2,OPT1,OPT2) (By the way, Salvatation
didn't give this info, and what they gave was WRONG)
Still can't read rom though :(

Thanks DF
and thanks all that answered

Well I still can't read rom :(
Am I missing something, can the rom be bad ?and I still be able to
read SA?
either that, or there is a bug in WD doctor :?

wd1600jd-75hbb0

Hi,
If controller is WDC and Drive is SATA some techno commands are blocked by Marvell bridge 88i8030
U can use Chk_wd for testing SA, or U can use compatible PATA board 2060-701265-xxx REV A from WDxx00JB-00GVA0 / WDxx00JB-00GVC0 (ROM must be replaced/reprogrammed)
ROM can be readed in this way
