Hi all!
Wondering if anyone can tell me where to get a replacement circuit board for:
Western Digital 300Gb WD3000JB - 00KFA0
A friend stuck an abnormal load on it, spun up for a sec, whiff of smoke from the pcb and immediately unplugged. Its worth a shot with a board swap, just can't find one!
Any help, very grateful!

You'll get one from
http://www.ultratec.co.uk - just checked and they have some in stock.
You need to match WD3000JB-XXKFXX i.e. don't worry what XX is. The middle 2 digits are most important.
You'll probably have to transplant the ROM chip to the donor board to ensure compatability.
Good luck.

CK - many thanks for you reply. Checked out that website, currently showing none in stock but have dropped them an quote request. Hopefully they'll come through.
What does the ROM chip look like CK, is it obvious, and easy to extract?
Thanks so much for replying

I've just looked again and they do have a WD3000JB-00KFA0 in stock for about £41.
Without seeing a photo of your PCB, I can't be 100% sure from memory. Normally on these drives, it's an 8-leg chip with "U12" beside it on the PCB.

What's the P/N of the PCB? (2060-xxxx-xxx from the board)
You will 99% certainly have to swap the ROM.
I'm in UK and can do this for you, at a special hddguru price.

PM or msn me if interested.
Cheers
