Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I am interested in repairing some Maxtors with bad firmware modules using the self-scan feature of the PC3000, to use for hot swap drives.
I have tried it on a couple of Calypso drives, following the instructions in the PC3000 manual, and also several variations of the steps. I cannot get it to complete the process.
Has anyone had regular success with that process, and if so, can offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, 100%. You are missing something or wrong procedure or the drives have to be fixed in other parts before SS otherwise you won't succeed.

Could you kindly shed some light on what the SSO file is and its sources?
Thank you.

Calypso doesn't need any SSO file. Also you don't need "that" much to start selfscan... :S

Thanks, BlackST. But I still am in the dark about the SSO file. What is it and where is it to be found??
