recent Hitachi HDD:head replacement experiences?

September 16th, 2008, 6:55

Hi all,

what are your experiences with head replacement on recent Hitachi disks? I'm mostly interested in the 160gig per platter density level.
I've one disk here with a sticking head, have not investigated the surface yet, but if it is not too bad, it would be worth one try. The disk was in an external enclosure and has been dropped some centimeters while running, so checking the surfaces first is obligatory.
It's one of those re-typing the bills and scanning the documents on this disk would be cheaper than DR, but anyway, I'd like to give it a try...
