Seagate ST3500320AS ---Spins OK, No Clicking, Not detected

September 18th, 2008, 3:31

Hi,

I've a Seagate ST3500320AS Barracuda 7200.11.

Model: ST3500320AS
FW: SD15
PN: 9BX154-303
PCB: 100466725 Rev A DLAJ-4

Disk spins absolutely fine, no clicking sound, disk vibration also ok, but not detected in BIOS.

Not able to post the Termainal log, as this disk is not supported by PC3000 and Salvation.

Does any body have any suggestions/workarrounds to get the data out ?

Note: I've seen similar posts for the same disk same problem. Any known defects/problem in this drive model ?

Thanks,
RDS.

I haven't see any of these drives yet. Would we say translator is the problem 80% of the time?

I would love to get my greasy hands on one :OP

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies.

The main problem is neither PC3000 nor SalvationData support this drive.

Any clue about the PC3000 or SalvationData next updates that will support this drive model ST3500320AS Barracuda 7200.11?

Hi Doomer,

Thanks for ur reply.

I don't know how you will fix this as PC3000 and SalvationDaa both doesn't support this drive.

Pls PM me your address, charges, etc., immediately.

If it is really affordable and feasable, definitely we can proceed further.

Thanks,
RDS.

How can the translator be eliminated based upon those symptoms?

By what you are saying. The problem is 'guessed' as translator as it has a similar symptom as Seagate SCSI drives when the translator gets corrupt - they show as zero bytes. The translator is part of the firmware or SA anyway so both would be correct if the translator is at fault.

This problem with SCSI drives appears to be the same as the 7200.11 series and we are all scrabbling around trying to get into the SA of these drives. Doomer already can do this as he works for Seagate and has access to the documentation and proprietry software

There are a few cryptic clues/red herrings around here but best to take a starting point and work from there.
