Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts
September 23rd, 2008, 14:19
I am posting this is bc after leaving my drive with a 'data recovery' company, I have had no progress whatsoever.
Apparently the only way to retrieve any data from my hard drive is to track down another one made at around the same time, and do some form of transplant of parts. I appreciate that this may indeed be an impossible task, given that WD is clearly sold worldwide, but my 150GB of work files on it, are worth the effort to me and at least if I'm trying, I know that someone is!
So, if anyone can give me any kind of advice on where to go, or indeed if anyone happens to be sitting on the following and would like to sell me the parts, I'd be very grateful.
Am looking for:
Mdl: WD2500JB - 00REA00

THANK YOU! I have faith that HDD Guru will come through for me!

What is the problem with your drive do u need pcb or HDA ?

Ah. I wish I knew. I thought if I could at least locate another drive, I would have more luck finding someone who knows what they're doing to do this 'transplant operation'.
(I don't know if this helps, but basically the drive isn't recognised, it just makes a whirring noise and clicks - 3 times and then stops altogether).
Any ideas?!!!

could be a pcb issue but more chances are of bad heads .

as rameez said it could be the PCB
50 % ( PCB ) and 50 % ( bad heads )

My bet is on heads, as pcb would be much easier
to source

Thanks for the replied. Please forgive my stupidity (I'm only a civilian) - what is a pcb? Do I REALLY need to match the drive? Is it a possible mission?

PCB=Printed Circuit Board
It would be easier to know what is needed if the initial problem/
symptoms was known.

When you first sent it to the company, what diagnosis did they give you?
Or, what was the originsal problem.
