I have a SATA drive Samsung model HD161HJ That I think has a burnt PCB. It has this number etched on the PCB BF41-00163A R00. I think I may have found the exact model drive. Would it be possible to swap the PCB's and recover the data. I read somewhere that there may be a ROM chip that I need to take off of the old board and have it soldered onto the new board. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,
Cliff

It would be helpful if you describe drive's behavior when you try to power it on.

Thanks for your quick response. When I power it up it doesn't do anything. There is no clicking sound or any activity at all.

If this is your board, then it has no external EEPROM:

If you have a multimeter, you can make some simple tests to narrow down the fault.
