Hard drive: Seagate 7200.11 750 GB, PN 9BX156-303, Firmware SD15 (upgrade since, but displays 0 GB after fix)

Original message: About a month ago, Windows Vista stopped starting normally and I'd have to usually put in a repair CD to fix the startup files. After a couple weeks of that, the repair CD failed to work. Got a new hard drive, installed Windows 7 with the intention of putting the Seagate in an external USB enclosure to transfer everything over to the new drive. My laptop recognized it right away and showed it as almost completely full, but only a small portion of the files were available. Shut it off, tried it a few more times and it just froze up the OS. Now it won't be recognized regardless of which computer I try to hook it up to. Tried other hard drives in the external enclosure and different cables, and those all worked. Hooked the Seagate up internally in several different SATA ports, no luck. Changed some of the BIOS settings, no luck. From time to time, the BIOS would recognize the device but when Windows 7 started, it would either not show up or would show a capacity of 0 GB. The drive sounds like it always does, shows no signs of physical damage.

Update: Ended up sending it off to a repair place that updates the firmware for these drives. The fix was applied fine apparently and the drive is now detected, but shows 0 GB capacity.

I've done some reading up on here on the 0 GB LBA issue. Do you guys think this is what's driving the problem? If so, can anyone recommend a good service that can fix this?

They haven't fixed it properly then by the look of it.

Unless it has other issues.

Better send it to a proper DR place, rather than "PC repair" place.

Or if you don't care particularly about the data, then there are DIY fixes for this on this forum if you search for them. AT YOUR RISK

Be warned there are risks & a wrong command (ie upper case & lower case commands are different) could mean lose of your data. If you decide to take the risk then you accept the possibility of things going wrong.

There wasn't a need for firmware update.
Now you have a bigger problem with your drive.
Best thing to do is to send it to a pro if you want to see your data back.
