Hallo guru's.
I own this drive, looks ok, surface ok, but I am wondering why the values on current pending sector/offline uncorectable are so high?
imminent failure?
how does it look like?
thank you in advance

The drive has begun degrading. If the pending sectors are concentrated in bunch of areas and they appear at consistent intervals, then the drive likely has a weak head.

Create a back up while you still can.

I scan the surface with Victoria. No bad sector found. Or weak sector(s) either.
Same answer?
Thanks in advance.

I would back up all data on the HDD and then take MHDD and zero fill the HDD. Then try to reformat the HDD and write a few files back to the HDD. Run your program again to check to see if anytbing has changed. If the drive is not so old you can RMA this drive and get a new one.

It's an internal problem . As these drives are quite of poor quality, no wonder. But a weak/degraded head would have shown a different behaviour. Out of curiosity, is this a recert drive ? (green lined label).

you mean refurbished
no, its not refub
my main question and problem its with current pendig/offline uncorrectable nuber showed in smart
so... if its head(s) problem, then so be it
it is stil working fine as only sistem drive, surface looks clean, no bad or weak sectors
firmware area degrading? something in its internal is wrong, somthing related with current pending/offline... just guessig
witch parameter is showing its degrading? besaids pemding/offline?
thanks in advance

I agree with this. If you perform a zero-fill, you will overwrite the pending sectors and if they're really bad, they will be remapped (i.e. they won't be available any more). However, there is a little chance you can recover some pending sectors when doing the zero-fill (those sectors will be set as 'good' again). So backup all data to a removable drive, download the Magic Boot Disk with MHDD (Software section of this website), burn the image to a CD and boot your computer with this disk. When booting is complete, type in at the DOS Prompt:

MHDD

Then, select the port with the drive and issue the following command:

EID

You will see extended information for your drive, and if command completes succesfully, now issue the "low level format":

ERASE

When prompted, press Y and wait until the process is complete. Finally, review again the SMART values by issuing:

SMART ATT

Watch attributes 'Reallocated sectors count', 'Current pending sectors' and 'Offline scan UNC sectors' and note if there is a change in its values.

Good luck.

My opinion is that for this drive, in particular, is giving a bad report in smart attributes.
because the surface is clean and the drive performs as good as in the beginigs, brought as new.
the change in the pending/offline seems to came from DMA CRC errors, my opinion, but anyway, the values are extremly high like double integer, like out of control, WHY? since the drive performs NORMAL?
in attached picture it is like ''before''
thank in advance

Absolutely no. To determine what exactly the problem is, the INTERNAL logs should be checked and decoded but it is useless. At end user level , zero fill the drive and forget the SMART if surface works.

05 shows 64 reallocated sectors
C5 shows 6 pending sectors

As you can see smart has tripped and is showing a warning status.
It is time to change the drive as it is obviously failing. There might be a limited number of hours use left but again it might fail tomorrow so to ignore the warnings would be rather foolish.

thanks for advice
this drive it is a toy for me, I'm playng around with it. I will not say that I'm new in DR and I will try to swap heads or platters, I'm not in that position, still. I trade a 4 gb usb stik for this drive see? it is a game, a simple one.
it is not a problem like changing the drive for me, it is just how I can find those pending sectors, becouse I used a lot of tools, and also spinrite, I just want to use the proper tool to fix those 6 pending/offline uncorectable. those were 7, find one, 6 more to go, wanted!
thanks in advance!

You need a HW tool or COMMERCIAL software (that cost €€€ !!) to handle this problem completely , and the know how (sorry , this too is not for free) . Everything else would be a partial and unstable (= will work for 1 day ? 1 week ? 1 minute ?) solution, considering that this drive (the latter, 80 GB) is , generally speaking , nothing exceptional in terms of quality.

You need HW tool - true - $5 RS232 or USB to LVTTL converter, commercial software called Hyper Terminal (included with MS Windows), and some search how to perform factory certification test (called selfscan) on this drive. Assuming it is 7200.10 family.
Before proceding, backup your data, backup you firmware using ST-MEM_free, learn little bit how to use terminal commands.
