HM500JJ after drop

February 18th, 2013, 6:08

Hello,
I have Samsung 2,5" HM500JJ, which was dropped during work. After that, drive is clicking. DR company asked by mail suspect heads.
I am not a pro, and data is not worth paying for (vacation photo etc), so this is case of hobby / curiosity. I do not have PC3K, I do have terminal. I am it admin, not DR specialist (but I think DR is very interesting, and I want to try).

Is it worth a try to buy same model drive and move HSA? Is it possible that disk will work after that, without necessity of head alignment, or other complicated problems like that?
I am wondering is it worth to spend 50E on second disk, or whether it will be a waste of money.

Without proper skill (nobody will guide you) and tooling you are going to waste 50 EUR in my opinion : need clean room, tools to work AND after that you may have media damage that will kill new heads in seconds while you power it up. Unless you are very lucky, it's not easy.
