WD security and smartware

February 18th, 2013, 16:08

I own a WD My Passport drive. However, I have some issues with unlocking and WD says I forgot the password. I'd like to request from anyone who has an automatically unlocked drive to please send me a copy of their registries for comparisson purposes.

Thanks to anyone who may help.

Information about this is available in the fourm. Use the search option.

No DIY solutions.(other than trying to remember the password)

Else if data is very important , seek a pro who can do this job.

"Registry" on OS has nothing to do with the Smartware encryption (otherwise it would not be so secure). If data is not important, reformat the drive and carry on, otherwise it will be VERY VERY VERY EXPENSIVE assuming you'll find someone who will handle your case.

I see where you are getting, but there must be some registry or software pattern, even a redundancy bit, to tell the drive to unlock and decrypt once you have chosen to unlock automatically on a certain pc. Otherwise, it shouldn't have that option.
