Seagate TMOS - changing firmware version #

May 13th, 2013, 19:15

Thank to a steep learning curve of the past few weeks I now have much better understanding of the inner secrets of modern HDD's ... and respect for the data recovery profession. I wouldn't have figured it would take me back to my long gone RS232 comm's days. There is something thoroughly satisfying in having established a working TMOS connection :-)

I would like to change certain parameters of suitable Seagate drives: Model#, Serial#, max LBA# and firmware version. With the use of ^U, SetStuff and W on T> level I can change Model, Serial and LBA but firmware version seems to be dynamic (loaded from ROM @boot?). Is it possible to change the firmware version # permanently?

Thanks!

John
