I have a WD10TMVWW-11ZSMS5 and I need connect the hard disk directly to Sata.

I have tried change chip U12 from USB board to other pcb sata but that doesn't work

The pcb number is 2060-771814-001 rev p1

Do you have any idea about wich pcb i can use?

Not exactly sure what you are doing because details are so small, and I dont work in HDD so I am probably not seeing the picture as an experienced guru, like some others here.

But:

looks like to me that you have a Drive with a USB board. You changed the board to a SATA one, and changed U12 from USB board to SATA one.


Would you have been better off keeping the USB board as it was and soldering a SATA breakout onto the USB board?

Not really. That would need a lot of extra work and they'd end up still with encrypted data.

Exactly what I was talking about.

But that not happen in all hdd. Sometimes the Initio chip does not encrypt.

If hdd is encrypt, sometimes you can do a image and after to use pcb with initio chip

The WD Passport™ series are encrypted (except for the Russian market, I am told), but the WD Elements™ are not. I believe I have seen Helios drives in the Elements product.

The encryption depends on settings of particular drive not only on USB chip
Same drive can be encrypted or can be not encrypted

As Jon said WD Elements doesn't utilize encryption. These drives used non-encrypting version of Initio chip (USB2) but USB3 drives have the same chip for both encrypted and non-encrypted drives
Lately WD started to put USB3 drive in WD Elements series, disabling encryption by software

As for Russian (and some other countries) market it depends on internal regulations. Basically the law in Russia prohibits encrypted drives unless all information about encryption and passwords can be provided to law enforcement at the moment of such request. That's why you can't buy FDE drive in Russia (officially)

Still haven't seen a Helios in Elements.
But you're right, if it's Elements it's not encrypted.
