MetalMic,
I have yet to find an HDD to swap bridge boards... I bought one and it had a different revision and did not work. I still have my fried board (with u4) and drive, but don't dare spend the $ again on a 3TB again in hopes of finding the right one.

If you find the correct bridge, maybe we can help each other out, as I do not want anything to do with WD enclosures anymore, I just want my data on the WD drive in a cheapo enclosure, or my PC. I'd pay to get a board, even if you used it first...

Wasn't that weird to see the little chip glow up and fizz out like that. It took me by surprise, that's for sure!

Hi bigd003,

Just wondering why you didnt swap the U4 chip from your fried board to the new one, that could be the only last thing you need to do to get your data out.

Anyway i have no problem to send you the new board after I retrieve my data (provided myself can find the same rev board as well) since i'm planning to use al cheapo casing as well after that..lol

Then again if my direct swap doesnt work and i need to transplant my old U4 chip on it, I guess that board will be useless to you as well but let see how it goes first.

UPDATE:

Bigd003, i just got a controller board off ebay, you can find the page link here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 60#vi-desc

Temporary scrapped the idea of getting another brand new HDD drive, the price has gone up almost 100% since the last time I bought mine!!! so it makes more economic sense to get this used controller board...

Latest update:

The replacement board finally arrived 14 days as promised by the seller. It worked PERFECTLY!! without any need to perform any serial flash transplant, i'm backing up my data to my laptop as we speak. :D

So it seems that replacement board will worked so long the board version is simillar or newer than the previous one that was faulty.

Excellent! For some reason I have not been notified of the posts since my last reply here. I had been subscribed before... anyway.

Well, I bought a 2tb WD drive, thinking I could save a few bucks, but when I opened it up to check, it was a different bridge board. ( I now have a brand new 2tb drive for sale, that has never been used- just opened up, offers?)

I would still really like to be able to salvage that data, thankfully the solution you found didn't require the u4 chip, as I don't want to fiddle with that...

Hi guys !

I am suffering from the same issue and desperate to solve this problem as I have all work on the HDD. my PCB is 4060-705089-001 REV.P1!

I am trying to purchase the same PCB model over ebay, however, i can not find the exact match to my model serial available for sale.

Do you think I can buy this version PCB 4060-705059-001 ?

Thank you for your precious help
