The torn here is that you said the drive is with a professional. A professional should know what is compatible and not. So, if anything they should tell you what you need to look for as you are the one searching now, though the fact that they are not looking for the part themselves further confirms the lack of experience of whoever has your drive.

Anyway, the part you mentioned is likely to be compatible.

I really appreciate all your warnings regarding to firm I gave my disk to. They told me if I am able to find the same model of hard drive it would be fine, the same means it should match following criteria:

Has to be the same:
1. model number and the 2nd part has to match: WD7500KMVW-11ZSMS4.
2. The country of Manufacture. Made in Thailand.
Should match
3. The DCM’s 5th character. Try matching 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th character if possible.
4. The closest date of manufacture possible. Preferably within 3 months of yours or earlier.

All what I wanted to achieve with this topic was to find more info for myself and save time for searching for specific questions like naming code meaning, where nobody answer me with useful info, then I found it by myself on WD site. Then I tried to found out DCM matrix, again no helpful info was given...
I understand you are trying to say me I should put this questions to the service and if service is reputable they answer me on it. But I asked you on this forum and you gave me still the same answer about what I was not asking you, so that is the reason why I talking that you gave me no answer on my questions.

I sympathize with your frustration a bit because of the unknown in this technology. Truth is it is not an exact science in all cases of compatibility.
You received good guidelines from those guys, so you should be good to go.

sved666, your attitude really stinks. You've had valuable input from at least 3 highly experienced data recovery engineers here, and yet you go on and on.

If the company who you hard drive is with cannot source a donor, you should be running a mile. I have a client who is currently in Russia and has mailed me asking for a donor, because the 'professionals' he has his drive with over there do not have a donor. It's like a car mechanic asking you to source the ECU he needs to fix your car, it does not give the customer much, or any, faith.

Good luck with your journey. Ignoring valuable advice will only lead to one result, and not the one you want.

hello all,
I am not frustrating and do not want argue with anybody from you, I just do not agree with fact that when somebody ask exact question and expect clear, specific answer, obtain instead of it answer do not do that....
I understand that whole recovery process is not exact science but I believe that things like matrix and naming convention code is given.
Also I did not say that firm which has my drive can not order the donor -this is only your wrong assumption...so please do not make me stupid.
I also understand importance of professional knowledge and more than necessary experiences in case of recovery and understand your worries about my data and appreciate your warnings, but you should noticed I do not want only achieve my data but also learn something. This is what I am missing in this discussion...
At the end, sorry if you have a felling I wanted to discredit somebody I just wanted to gain specific data that are really difficult to find on the internet from you as more experienced people than I am...
So once again thank you for your effort...

If they can order it, as you said, why dont they? Why are you expected to deliver it? why do they not give you details you need?

Why come to a public forum to ask for specific information that should be available from the pro firm that has your drive?

Your HDD is from family called Helios. This is determined by the part of the model stating 'ZSMS'. There are several alternatives to 'ZSMS' within the same family. There are also SATA variants. Identifying this is only half the issue. You need to match the internal head count, and also the mapping it takes. In addition to this there are other issues such as values in ROM relative to HSA positioning, or alignment. Assuming your case does have failed heads, it also very likely has some level of surface damage. This level of surface damage should also be assessed by the firm that has your disk. Very often these passports are dropped, the heads can get caught between the parking ramp and the platters causing scratching of the platter. Even without such damage, there will be some level of instability which needs to be addressed also.

My concern is that your HDD is with a professional company, who obviously have not told you the criteria needed for donor selection or are without the knowledge needed for this. If they are not able to tell you this, how many other obstacles will there be, and is your data really safe?

Why dont you criticize this firm for failing to give you the information you need, while they have your drive and have been given the responsibility of taking care of your data? Instead you come here looking for solid answers that have been reached following hard work and research (yes, 21st century or not, it IS needed!) , yet when you dont hear what you want to hear, you accuse me of 'talking nothing' and act like we owe you the answer your seeking!



Stupid is giving your drive to someone who do not have access to donor parts, fail to give you the criteria for a donor and expect you to deliver a good donor after you ask at a public forum for advice at which you flame anyone giving it to you.

True is that I am waiting for answer from them and the reason why I turned to this forum is to gain basic knowledge to know what questions I should ask company, because from where I should know whether they told me everything What I need to know? especially if I am almost lost in this field...

I will wait for answer from company and then decide whether they are really pro or not, although I increasingly finding out that they are probably not ,or ask you if I can again...
Let me give you also little advice... sometimes is better say also second part of the sentence (why it is so) not only say do not do that...or ask additional questions and do not make your own assumptions...
