Head disable could be achieved by manipulating only flash modules, namely 0A, 0B and 47. It requires full ARCO tests afterwards.

Head depop is a command to the drive. It activates the DEPOP overlay and results in changes in both flash modules and SA modules like 02, 03, 04, 05, 0C, 33, 36, 40, etc. The most important thing is that head depop changes the order of the heads.
For example , if we depop head 1 of a 4-head drive , head 0 remains head0, head1 becomes head3, head2 becomes head1 and head3 becomes head2. Always the depoped head becomes the last in the list and desabled by removing the records about its CAP and TPI setting in modules like 03, 04, 05, 0C.
The main advantage of head depop is that no ARCO tests are required. Just run SelfScan or FormatUnit if the P-list is not cleared. The performance of such a drive,however, is not optimal and the drive is not prepared for a next head depop!
