I don't know about these two models specifically. In general, when matching Samsung heads you have to have the same code to the right of the serial number, e.g. P/V MS.

You can use a 4 head head stack to replace a 3 head - I've done that.

If I had to guess . . . and it's only a guess . . . I'd bet these two are different.

Hi everyone. I know this thread is very old but I have the same question and I don't quite get Jono's answer.

I have a broken Samsung SP1604N S/N: S013J10Y930726 P/N: 0923J1FY918104 P/V FS
I wonder if I can use a Samsung SP1644N S/N: SOE9JQSQ400139 P/N: 35041QSQ400100 P80M as a host to save the data. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

When you say "host" do you mean "donor"?

I have gotten the SP1624N and HD160JJ/P to work as donors for the 1604N. The SP1644N may work as well. Look at the slider topology under magnification. If it's a match, try it.

Buena suerte.

Hi everyone, I did the swap and I wanted to share my experience with you. I'm an amateur.

I didn't swap platters because the hard drive had two platters and I don't have the tools to do so without misaligning them.

So I swapped heads. At first it didn't work, the circuit board on one hard drive was REV A and the other was REV C. I'm guessing this was the reason. But then I putted the original board into the hard drive and it started no problem. There are errors here and there but I managed to get the important information out of the disc.

Thanks!
