My 1T SATA Seagate hard drive does not spin up. There is no noise except a faint beep every 2 or 3 seconds. Does NOT click.I'm guessing head is on platter ie not in park position. Any chance though that a failed PCB would cause this beep?
Here are specs Seagate Barracuda 7200.12
S/N 9V78KAT
Model: ST31000528AS P/N 95L154-336
Firmware: CC3E Site Code TK

Yes it does sound a bit like stiction(head stuck to platter) or possibly a stuck spindle motor. Don't think a pcb will help, but maybe an expert DR Firm can recover for not too much

desktop model... most likely seized motor. It is extremely rare i see stiction on those drives.

Was it dropped, knocked over, pushed... 99% of the time that is what caused a seized motor

Was not dropped. It MAY have been bumped ( is internal drive hooked up via a usb adapter. Drive is maybe 2 years old. Is a data drive not the boot drive.

No way I have the $$$$$$$$$$ for data recovery so I am going to try myself. The way I figure it I have nothing to lose...or more likely have already lost it.

The PCB swap is the easiest to do and for $50 is not that big a deal but did not want to bother if it was a for sure waste of time.
Sometimes I guess a clicking prob can be solved with a PCB swap but I don't see much in that regard about just beeps. And the beeps I hear do not sound like mine.
If there is NO way that it's a PCB prob then I will attempt to make a clean enclosure to unstick the head.
Will video whatever I do and post a link when I do that. Probably 8 weeks or so. I have to design the enclosure and get a 2 3T SATA drives. 1 to have to rescue data the other to have it backed up. Thanks to all for replies.

If its just the spindle, then a little forceful push (Without touching the platters) might free it up. If there is a head stuck then you need to be careful about moving the disks. If the head is near the end of the drive the force needed to move the disks and gently move the heads inward to the spindle area for the drive to spin up. I suggest buying a few busted drives off ebay and playing around, once you discovered the problem.

You will need to open the drive in a clean room first. Make the best you can then take an image of the inside and post it online.

There is a very good chance this might not work, so be prepared for your data to be gone. I think its not the PCB issue.

im give you now ,how you can repair your drive:

first: open your drive
second: move the motor rotor in inverse
three: put the head reader in the inverse of clock
four: YOUR DRIVE IS READY TO USE AGAIN!!!!
