Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a WD 2.5 inch drive; it spins normally. HDD is recognized in Disk management, in Windows explorer it is recognized but responds very slowly. The disk has two partitions, G (System disk) and I (data disk). I am able to image G, the first 100 Gbyte without a hitch using R-Studio. But, partition I, the last 132 Gbyte, is showing the above error every 12 sectors.
What do you guruºs think is the problem ?

Maybe a scratch or bad/weak head or firmware problem.

sounds like a common problem, but you will need access to fw.

I think the problem is that the hard drive clearly has physical issues (firmware possibly being one of them). You should either outsource to a data recovery pro or, at the very least, try to get a full sector-by-sector clone of the drive with a program like ddrescue prior to attempting a file system recovery.

Thanks gurus.
In my opinion, the fact that the unreadable sectors occur at a regular interval without exception makes a scartch quite improbable.
Scratchy,
Will Sediv will do for firmware access ?
Thanks.
