Seagate 7200.12 500GB ST500DM002 F/W: JC4B problems!

May 25th, 2015, 14:02

I have a seagate 7200.12 500gb model st500dm002 with firmware JC4B, it shows on boot up and bios but only shows 3.7gb of capacity and it makes a clicking noise, in windows you can see it in disc management but you cant do nothing, I want to recover the files but idk if this is a firmware failure or a physical failure, I have ordered a pcb with the same firmware from an identical hard drive but some people say this doesn't work aswell, I was thinking on buying an RS232 to usb and try to fix it with the LBA 0 method but I think this couldn't work for me too.

Some background: the drive just stopped working inside the computer, it didnt boot and thats it.

I need help, I will post some pictures later of how it shows when booting maybe it could help!

What kind of error my hard drive could have? I haven't found anything on google or a similar error.

Bad heads and/media damage.

99.9% nothing to do with PCB or firmware, given the symptoms and clicking.

End of the road for DIY :-(

+1

symptom suggest a physical failure. pcb fault is very unlikely.

I haven't count how many times it clicks, but what if it clicks 11 times and spin down? its completely dead or something?

if data is important, send it to DR company.
DIY is not an option here.
sorry.

Well I guess this is the only option I have, how much would cost for data recovery and including shipping too?
