WD My Passpord 4TB 2060-800041-003 doesn't turn on

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to diagnose a 4TB 2,5 inch WD USB hard drive but I haven't managed to solve the problem. I've already ordered a new 2060-800041-003 PCB but I'd like to understand what happened to the current one.

At first the USB connection wasn't very well working, then it started not showing any sign of life and now when I connect the hard drive to the usb port nothing happens (not even the usb connection is found). Soldering points on the board all seem perfect. Is there any specific pin i should check? I tried looking for some kind of service manual but couldn't find any.

I resoldered the zero ohm resistor and the hard drive came to life again

I was wondering something else about the same hard disk.

When it was new it used to spin down right after unmounting it. In the last few days before the hardware failure it started not spinning down at all, but it was time to time. After the repair it's not spinning down at all, it properly unmounts but I have to unplug it with the platters still spinning. Is that caused by an hardware or software problem?

Would it be a software one, how could I fix it? Thanks in advance again

These drives autopark after an idle timeout. You can see this in the SMART report (Load/Unload Cycles). This behaviour is determined by the APM setting.
