I just want to say something.

I'm very technically minded and I've been working with PC's for over 20 years now but this is the first time I've attempted anything like this so I'm basically listening to you two blindly.

I really do appreciate both your assistance :)

Before I do another command, just want clarity on which one I should be issuing :)

Ok, that msg is not an error, it is because you have the sata cable disconnected...
I have never seen it before coz i probably never left sata disconnected, but just made a test and i also got that.
So it should change to
Code:
6Gb Max Speed lowered to 3Gb for Intel bug
Send Status: COMRESET seen

if you connect sata.

So i would recommend cloning it with HddSuperclone, which i never used myself but you can find plenty of resources on this forum.
Prior doing that you may want to issue these:
F"RWRecoveryFlags",0
F"PerformanceFlags",7c

then use some logical recovery sw on the image.
I would change the MBR signature in the clone to something diffferent than 55 AA to prevent the OS accessing it...

I just saw your edit. I'll wait for ddrecovery to reply about V40 before doing anything else.

Also, a that's a lot of information at once. Basically because I don't know how to issue those without the proper commands lol

although V40 is informative in some cases (when we suspect a translator corruption), you won't be further with that atm.
i think your problem is that the OS keeps on trying to read the unreadable, which you can avoid by cloning with the mentioned sw.

Could you please elaborate a bit more on what I should do next with the drive?

I'm heading to bed now, but hopefully there will be a response by the time I get up and I'll get as much done tomorrow as possible :)

Thanks again for all of the help so far :)

- run these:
Code:
T>F"RWRecoveryFlags",0
T>F"PerformanceFlags",7c
- repower or press ctrl-r

- try imaging it with HddSuperclone
Let us know how it goes

I'll do that a shortly, do I need to worry about these lines from your previous post?

"then use some logical recovery sw on the image.

Code:
TCC:0014

Also, do those flags stay active at the next drive power on?

Since pepe might be busy, I'll jump in and say that you shouldn't worry about those lines, just proceed.

That's fine, I'd rather wait for a response from them.
There's no rush, especially if there's a possibility that we're on the final stretch.

Hello,

I can't hold your hand all the way, tell you every command line you need to type and where, you need to do your homework, check out how to work with HddSuperclone, possibly use DMDE to recover the file system from the clone. It is partly because i don't use these but read good feedbacks about them, partly because it takes more time writing forum posts than recovering the thing myself if it was on my desk.
You need to do your homework, possibly try the above sw on a spare disks with some unimportant data to make yourself a bit comfortable, then proceed with the patient drive.
The drive should be prepared for cloning now that you turned off those things in terminal, most of the options are persistent, except "DISABLE_IDLE_ACTIVITY" in PerformaceFlags, it is cleared uppon power cycling.
you may also want to set "DISABLE_SMART_AUTO_UPDATES" by issuing
Code:
F463,C

I wasn't asking about how to use HDDSUPERCLONE, simple about the other 2 lines you wrote;

"then use some logical recovery sw on the image.
I would change the MBR signature in the clone to something diffferent than 55 AA to prevent the OS accessing it..."

Actually we can ignore the first line, that's pretty self explanatory, my apologies.

Also, I absolutely have been doing my own research, but because you've helped me in the past, I can't use that as a reference for more research as it doesn't have context per se.

We're so close to the finish line, please just help me with that last question?

ok, very good. If you can work under linux, you don't really need to change MBR signature coz linux won't mount it automatically unless in GUI. It won't hurt though coz you can later work with it in GUI. Use a CLI hex editor for that.
just quickly searching around i found this: https://itsfoss.com/hex-editors-linux/
The last one is CLI and since disks are treated as files, i guess it should be possible to use it to change MBR.

There might be better choices, i don't use linux that much, so i am left with googling too.

Wow, here I was hoping I could just make a clone with HDDSUPERCLONE and just restore the files from that.

I'll look into it.

Thank you once again, wholeheartedly :)

So just to confirm one thing, am I safe to start a clone now?

I am sorry that I am asking so many questions, but I am having a hard time mentally dealing with this due to how important these files are.

I have other stressful things going on in my life but I don't want to have a break from trying to fix it at the moment. Otherwise tones of time will pass again and I'll forget everything and have to start over again.

That all said, I don't expect sympathy but I cannot stress how grateful I am so far! :)

You will be able to. Changing the MBR just alters how windows interacts with your clone. The fact your drive is busy doing background tasks means there may be areas on the drive you will struggle to clone - you wont know until you try.
