ST8000AS0002 dead?

January 20th, 2024, 11:00

Hello!
I have this drive: Seagate Archive HDD 8000GB
Model number: ST8000AS0002
P/N: 1NA17Z-003

It is fairly new and suddenly it stopped working. (no errors of any kind before that).
I connected it (now) through USB <> SATA interface and as the drive starts it does 2 CLICKS.
After that I opened Victora 5.37 and it shows:

Model: ST8000AS0002
Firmware AR15
Serial Z840E9CL
Capacity 8089950 LBAs 4 GB
CHS: 16383/16/63 8 GB
S.M.A.R.T Enabled, Errlog, Selftest
Cache Unk.size; L/A=ON; Wr=ON; ok
Support LBA, HPA, DLM, DCO, DMA UDMA-6
Erase Time ~ 3 hours 30 minutes
Security OFF
ATA-8: SATA3, NCQ, PEC, SCT, SFDLM, WrUnk, W-R-V
SCT: AC2, AC3, AC4, AC5
Sector Logic 512 bytes Phys 512

What can I do? Anything I can try to revive it?

Are you able to retrieve a SMART report?

Hello fzabkar...
I'm sorry for writing like this but I can't write it directly.
I have a slightly different question...

I need to edit the ROM (bios) of an HP laptop.
I have to enter the correct serial number and other parameters needed to downgrade the ROM version (after the upgrade, the system stopped loading via TPM - it is encrypted with bitlocker and there is no key) - and the laptop does not directly accept the lower version.
My question is - do you know any software for editing HP bios, with checksum conversion?

Thank you very much in advance for your information.
Tell me priv. please.

4GB capacity usually means drive is still in bootfw, could not load SA. 2 clicks point to head/surface damage as well.
