Hi

While back I got an Seagate ST1000DM003. After plugging it in I wasn't greeted with heads going click click, so there was still hope for it being alive. Plugging it into an PC made the drive detection be suuuper slow. Then it complained about SMART 05 issue. After I loaded into windows, the drive still worked slow. HD TUNE always was freezing up and CDI didn't even display any SMART attributes. From there I knew the drive was getting the what I like to call "Seagate treatment" (bad sector occurs and drive goes click click).
I know these drives are total shit and waste of money and time, but is there something I could do to squeeze the little bit of life left on it?

Well, but I'd like to still try cause whats the worst that can happen? The drive is already useless anyways with the abysmal R/W speeds.
I believe an disable SMART command should do the trick, correct?

Okay, somehow the drive works "fine" when plugged in by SATA-USB adapter. Although there's no smart data. All blank. It also seems that LLF tool can format it pretty quick. Atleast the couple of first sectors (didn't format it fully).
